Korea has two big theme parks that first-time visitors ask about: Lotte World in the middle of Seoul and Everland in the hills south of the city. Both are fun, both get very busy, and they suit quite different trips. Here is how they compare, so you can pick the right one for your dates, weather and group.
The short answer
- Choose Lotte World if you are short on time, travelling in winter or the rainy season, or want a half day out without leaving Seoul.
- Choose Everland if you want a full day at a big outdoor park with animals, gardens and larger rides, and the weather looks good.
- With young children, both work well; Lotte World is easier to reach, while Everland's animal areas are a highlight for many families.
- With teenagers who love roller coasters, Everland usually wins.
Lotte World Adventure
Lotte World Adventure is in Jamsil, in south-east Seoul, and is connected directly to Jamsil Station on subway Lines 2 and 8. It has two parts:
- The indoor park, under a huge glass roof, with rides, parades, shows and restaurants on several levels. It is the main reason Lotte World works so well in cold, hot or wet weather.
- Magic Island, an outdoor area on a lake next door, reached by a walkway. It has the fairy-tale castle and some of the bigger thrill rides, which can stop in strong wind, rain or very cold weather.
Next door are Lotte World Tower with its observation deck, the Lotte World Aquarium and a large shopping mall, so it is easy to make a full day of the area. See our Seoul night views guide if you want to end the day at the top of the tower.
How long to spend: half a day to a full day.
Everland
Everland is Korea's largest theme park, in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, about an hour from central Seoul. It is mostly outdoors, spread over a hillside, with several zones and seasonal flower gardens. Highlights include:
- Safari World and Lost Valley, where you ride through animal areas in a bus or amphibious vehicle.
- Panda World, home to Everland's giant pandas, which are hugely popular in Korea. Expect queues.
- Big roller coasters, including T Express, one of Korea's best-known wooden coasters.
- Seasonal festivals such as spring tulips, summer water shows, Halloween and Christmas events.
How long to spend: a full day. Add travel time of one to two hours each way.
Getting there
Lotte World
Take the subway to Jamsil Station (Lines 2 and 8) and follow the signs underground. No transfer or bus is needed, which is a big advantage with children or in bad weather.
Everland
- Direct buses run from several parts of Seoul, including routes from the Seoul Station area and Gangnam, and take about an hour or more depending on traffic. Pay with a transport card.
- Subway and EverLine: take the Suin-Bundang Line to Giheung, change to the EverLine light rail to its last stop near Everland, then take the free park shuttle bus.
- Reserved shuttle buses from central Seoul are sold by tour booking sites and some hotels. They save transfers but need booking ahead.
Bus numbers and shuttle options change, so check the route in Naver Map or KakaoMap on the day and look at Everland's official website before you go. Our day trips from Seoul guide has other ideas for the same area.
Weather and seasons
This is often what decides it. Everland is outdoors and on a hill, so it can be very cold and windy in winter, hot and humid in summer, and some rides close in heavy rain or strong wind. Lotte World's indoor park runs whatever the weather, even if Magic Island closes some rides.
In winter, both parks decorate for Christmas with lights, parades and seasonal shows, usually from November into the new year; check the official websites for this year's programme. Dress warmly for Everland and for Magic Island: see our winter travel guide.
Avoiding the queues
- Go on a weekday. Weekends and Korean school holidays (late July to August, and late December to February) are the busiest times. Korean public holidays such as Chuseok and Seollal are very crowded.
- Arrive at opening time. Head first to the most popular rides or attractions, such as Panda World or the safari at Everland.
- Use the official app. Both parks have apps showing waiting times, and some attractions use time-slot reservations through the app on the day.
- Consider a fast pass. Both parks sell paid queue-skipping options on busy days; check what is available on their websites.

Tickets
You can buy tickets at the gate, but it is usually cheaper to book online in advance. Both parks have offered discounts for foreign visitors at various times through their own websites and through travel booking platforms, and there are often cheaper tickets for entry later in the afternoon. Prices change by season and date, so check the official Lotte World and Everland websites rather than relying on prices you see quoted elsewhere. Remember to bring your passport if you buy a foreigner-only ticket.

Fitting it into your trip
Lotte World slots easily into a Seoul itinerary as a half day, for example combined with Lotte World Tower in the evening. Everland is better treated as a separate day trip. If you are following our 5-day Seoul itinerary, swap one of the free half days for Lotte World, or one full day for Everland.
